Prize Bond Scanner Troubleshooting Guide
A practical diagnostic guide for camera, OCR, browser and result-checking problems.
Start with four checks
- Open https://prizebondpak.org/ in an updated main browser.
- Select the denomination printed on the bond.
- Allow camera permission and use the rear lens.
- Confirm the relevant draw appears on the database coverage page.
Do not accept a reading until all six digits in scan history match the physical bond.
Camera does not open
Reset permission
In Chrome, use the lock or site-settings icon beside the address, open Permissions and set Camera to Allow. Reload afterward. If access was repeatedly denied, clear the permission for PrizeBondPak.org and approve it again.
Close competing apps
Another camera, video-call or scanning app may be using the lens. Close it and restart the browser scanner. Close unused tabs on low-memory phones.
Use the main browser
Browsers embedded inside Facebook or messaging apps can provide unreliable camera access. Open the page directly in Chrome, Edge or Safari.
Scanner is slow
The first scan takes longer because the OCR engine and draw database initialize. Later scans should be quicker while the tab stays open.
- Use a stable connection for initial loading.
- Keep only one number in the target.
- Use even light and wait for autofocus.
- Close heavy applications.
- Use Manual Check for faded print.
Prevent wrong digit readings
The stable scanner configuration restricts OCR to digits. This avoids expanding the OCR alphabet with Z, C, O, Q, D and G, which can make ordinary six-digit detection less reliable. After each automatic check, compare the displayed crop with the editable number and use “Correct & Recheck” if necessary.
Reduce glare
Move the light source rather than bending the bond.
Keep digits upright
Hold the phone parallel to the paper.
Fill the target
Move close while keeping six digits visible.
Shuffle after checking
Show a visibly different bond so automatic capture re-arms.
A known winner is not found
- Compare every displayed digit.
- Confirm the denomination.
- Check coverage.
- Test the number manually.
- Compare with National Savings.
Report a confirmed disagreement through the data-error process.
